Best of the best

Come di consueto alla fine del torneo sono stati assegnati i premi ai giocatori e alle giocatrici che in questo torneo hanno fatto la differenza e si sono distinti nei vari ruoli:
in campo femminile il premio per il TOP SCORER è andato a Julia, con i suoi 8 gol;
il premio per BEST DEFENDER è andato ad Asia, con i suoi formidabili 42 punti;

BOYS' FINAL: Bayern Munich 2-2 Barcelona (6-5 after penalties)

The two finalists produced a match worthy of the occasion, thrilling a packed stadium with a game that swung first one way and then the other.
Nawim shocked his team mates when his hand instinctively shot up to intercept a dangerous cross, allowing Jakob to put the Germans 1-0 ahead. Barcelona almost struck back immediately; Francesco T set up Francesco G and his shot was turned wide by Ale in goal. From the resulting corner, Caue thundered a shot against the bar. But then Francesco T lost a ball in midfield to Leo and he put captain Hoffmann in for a second goal.
Thinks looked bleak for the Catalans at half-time but Darien's change from goalkeeper to midfield seemed to transform his team and give them a new energy and sense of purpose.
Emilio was the second Barcelona player to thunder a shot off the bar and Darien almost succeeded in scoring from the rebound, but Leo cleared it off the line.
But no-one was more transformed in the second half than Player of the Match Francesco G and he made it 2-1 with a beautifully-struck shot into the left top corner. He followed up with a well-struck free-kick two minutres later and suddenly the teams were level and the Germans were in trouble.
But they managed to hang on for a draw and take the final to a penalty shoot-out.
Both captains missed their penalties but Luca Cerri scored the winner to give the title to the Germans and, as Mr Gianluca says, "Il sondaggio ha sempre ragione!"
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Francesco G 10, Leo 8, Caue 1, Ale dB 1, Darien 1

Werder 0-1 Besiktas

After going through the qualification phase unbeaten, Lena's team suddenly found themselves in trouble against a rejuvenated Besiktas.
With Player of the Match Aurora playing a holding role in midfield and distributing quality ball to Elif, Emma and Allegra, the Germans struggled to win the ball, struggled to keep it and hardly managed a shot on goal all day.
The Turks, meanwhile, were moving the ball around with aplomb and Elif was running fearlessly at the defense and peppering the goal with shots. When her goal came it was inevitable, and the only wonder was that she didn't add a second later on.
An all-round team performance overcame a lacklustre opposition, whose careful tactics had paid off until now but were ineffective against a super-motivated Besiktas.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Aurora 8, Daria 4, Emma Z 3, Allegra 2, Julia 2, Elif 2

Werder 2-0 Ajax

Two moments of hesitation in defense were enough to deny any reward to the Dutch team who dominated today's match territorially.
Player of the Match Carlotta could only look on in frustration as Julia twice took advantage of the defensive lapses to maintain Werder's impressive winning record.
The stage is set for a cracking final tomorrow: Werder vs. Besiktas - Be there!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Carlotta 10, Julia 5, Line 3, Olivia M 2, Daria 1

Besiktas 0-0 Goteburg

This was a match dominated by some excellent goalkeeping performances with Player of the Match Emma H. making a particularly memorable save in the first half, flinging herself low to her left to keep out a well-struck shot.
At the other end Hanna also made some good saves in the first half and, when Lavinia replaced her in the second half, the 6th grader played confidently too.
Joanna and Elif, the two captains, worked tirelessly to inspire their teams. Besiktas had more scoring opportunities but Elif herself, and Aurora, wasted some good chances.
The point gained by Besiktas sees them qualify for next Thursday's final while the Swedes can only await the outcome of the Werder-Ajax clash next Wednesday to find out if they finished third or fourth.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Emma H 9, Asia 5, Emma Z 4, Allegra 2, Olivia 1

Werder 3 - 1 Goteborg

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Julia 9, Joanna 5, Asia 5, Olivia 2.

Barcelona 5-3 Lyon

Tightly organized and working perfectly together as a team, Darien's Catalan champions brushed aside the challenge of Lyon to reach the final.
Emilio snatched the first goal and Francesco T put them 2-0 up. A beautiful long pass from Matteo found Simone in front of the goalkeeper and his quick-thinking lob made it 2-1 before half time.
Francesco T struck again in the second half with a cracking shot into the top corner but Matteo pulled the score back to 3-2 and the momentum seemed to be swinging to the French.
But hen Francesco G cracked one in to make it 4-2 and the French heads went down. Caue got away on the right, finding a gap in the Lyon defence after Kei was sent off and Caue scored to make it 5-2.
Matteo pulled one back but that was his last act in this first Intramural of the year.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Francesco T 7, Emilio 6, Darien 4, Simone 3, Gregorio S 1

2.12.10

Besiktas 4-0 Ajax

With Werder Bremen safely qualified for the final, Besiktas won this important game in the race for the other final place.
Captain Elif was in fine form and put her team 1-0 up early in the game. Besiktas dominated and won two dangerous free kicks. Aurora (today's player of the match) took both and struck them well: the first was well saved by Isabel, the second hit the post.
Elif then struck the bar with a good shot: the Dutch were living dangerously.
EWlif then played in Aurora but she took too much time on the ball and the chance vanished. Besiktas continued to press but Isabel made two more good saves to keeep them at bay.
Aurora opened the second half with a good goal. Elif made it 3-0 with a beautifully-taken opportunity and Aurora wrapped it all up with her second. Compliments too to the opposing captain - Carlotta - who harried, chased, passed and tackled all the way through but with no reward.
Player of the Match Points: Aurora 9, Elif 4, Emma Z 3, Carlotta 2, Isabel 2, Allegra 1

1.12.10

FC Basel 0-4 Bayern Munich

The Germans advanced to the final, powered by captain Jakob (today's Player of the Match) who scored all four goals in a comprehensive victory.
The Swiss had started well, Rocco's early shot going close. Andrea and Francesco S combined well too to produce two early chances for Francesco but both went wide.
Then Giovanni exchanged passes with Jakob but Enrico was first to the ball. He kicked it away but it bounced off Jakob and in: 1-0.
Andrea was first to react but shot wide and then Jakob missed an easy chance to go two in front. Who knows though how the match would have finished had Andrea's header gone in just before half time instead of coming back off a post.
In the second half Jakob scored three more: one after a mistake in midfield by Alex and two of good passes from Giovanni.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Jakob 8, Leo 6, Francesco S 4, Giovanni 1, Oliver 1, Andrea 1.
