GIRLS' SOCCER: Ambrit Teachers 0-0 Grade 6

Ambrit Teachers continued their unbeaten run with another efficient and economical performance against Ambrit's stars of tomorrow.
The opening minutes were notable mainly for an amazing save from Miss Claudia in her debut appearance, defying Camilla's first attempt on goal. Camilla continued to spearhead the students' attack but put her next two attempts wide.
The teachers clawed their way back into the match and peppered Lavinia's goal with shots towards the end of the first half. The pattern continued in the second half and this time it was Anjali who pulled off a breathtaking save to keep her team in contention.
Miss Pringle was in control in midfield and Miss Teresa, another teacher making her debut, was terrorizing the students down the right wing, It was Miss Teresa who almost settled the match in her team's favour but her finely-angled shot came back off the post.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Anjali

Greece 1-1 England

A sterile game only broke into life in the last few minutes when Miki turned home an Andrea corner to put his team ahead. But England had numerous chances all through the second half, many of which were saved by Antoine, and the English deserved a draw. They leveled the scores with the last kick of the game when Simone scored at the third attempt after Antoine had blocked his previous two efforts.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Miki 9, Ale Z 6, Andrea M 2, Nicholas 2, Danyal 1, Luca C 1

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Julia 9, Carlotta 4, Camilla 4, Elif 2, Valeria 2.

Ah, i sondaggi!

- secondo i lettori i bomber del campionato saranno Carlotta e Jakob (WOW, che coppia!);
- Alessandro e Vittoria sono i capitani che hanno fatto gli acquisti migliori;
- Uruguay e Germany, infine, sono date per "perdenti" e arriveranno ultime...

Chi vivrà vedrà!

Germany 4-1 Italy

Far from the classic encounter normally seen when Germany meets Italy, this game was one of the poorest witnessed in recent months.
Germany had the first decent chance when Player of the Match Rocco freed Giovanni on the edge of the penalty area but he shot over the bar. All Germany's good early defending was then undone when Matteo took off on a solo run down the left and scored to send the Italians in 1-0 at half time.
Germany equalised early in the second half when Rocco drove home an indirect free-kick awarded for time-wasting. Italy tried to react but were stung on the break when Marco, the German captain, scored with a well-taken volley off a throw-in.
Dariush and Matteo continued to attack but the Italians showed little teamwork. Emilio then turned on a loose ball in the penalty area to make it 3-1 and Giovanni rounded off the scoreline two minutes from the end.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Rocco 12, Emilio 4, Marco S 2, Nawim 2, Sam 1

Brazil 2-1 Argentina

After an opening period of jousting in which both defenses were tested and remained unbeaten, the game exploded into life when Joanna passed to Line and the captain scored.
In the second half, Line and Joanna both found the side netting but Sofia equalised after Player of the Match Emma Z sent in a pinpoint pass from the left.
The Argentinians looked like they were going to get away with a draw until Referee Calento awarded a string of controversial decisions against them, ending with a generous free-kick on the edge of the area. Aurora sized up the situation and planted the ball into the bottom corner.
The Argentinians fought on but were lucky not to suffer a heavier defeat when Joanna's shot off Aurora's assist came back off the post.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Emma Z 7, Aurora 4, Asia 4, Line 4, Clara 2

21.1.11

Spain 2-4 England

Spain almost sprang into a quick lead when Francesco S set up Andrea S for a shot but Luke made a miraculous save from point-blank range. But it was England who took the lead when Ludovico scored directly from a well-placed corner. Simone made it 2-0 when he controlled a ball on the edge of the box and shot quickly with the outside of his foot.
Spain pulled one back with a lovely move; Francesco T passed down the line to Francesco S, he squared it to Andrea S and his shot beat Luke.
Spain's revival however was short-lived. A long ball put Simone through. He lobbed the ball over a defender and then over the oncoming goalkeeper. The ball was on its way in but Jacopo got to it and kicked out again... but only to the waiting Simone who shot it back into the net to make it 3-1 at half time.
Marco T scored the fourth goal after a solo run, using Simone on the right to draw away the defenders.
Francesco S scored a final consolation goal but it is England who collect the three points.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Ludo 5, Marco T 5, Luke 4, Ale Z 4, Simone 3

Greece 3-2 Turkey

Turkeys have a habit of disappearing at Christmas but this one disappeared at half-time.
Having got to the interval ahead thanks to a goal from Jakob, Emre's team then surrendered the pitch to Greece and the 2004 European Champions did not require another invitation.
Prompted by Luca C and Andrea M and reinforced by Max (Player of the Match), they poured forward and rained a barrage of shots onto James who stopped two but could do nothing about the third, struck by Mattia.
Two minutes later Mattia struck again, this time popping up at a corner to nod home his second goal of the game. Luca C set up Andrea M for the third goal and only another goal on the break from Jakob, justifying his huge price tag, could keep the Turks in touch. But it was too little too late and the Greeks took the three points.
BEST PLAYER: Max 8, Luca C 4, Mattia 4, Danilo 3, Gregory 2

Ambrit Boys (Bayern Munich) 1 - 2 Ambrit teachers

Trailing 1-0 at half-time to a well-organized Students team, the Ambrit Teachers had to call on all their experience to overcome their younger opponents by scoring two second half goals.
The Students went ahead when Oliver stole a ball in midfield and played Jakob through on the goalkeeper. The tournaments top scorer made no mistake.
In the second half, the teachers began to play better. Miss Pringle, called into the side after yesterday's display, constantly found space and used the ball cleverly. On the other side Mr Suspanic had a solid debut and Mr Guarnieri cleaned up most of the loose ball at the back.
The Teachers equalized when Mr Gianluca rose above the defence to tuck a header past Ale in goal.
Four minutes later, Mr Corcoran took advantage of some space on the left, Winning the ball in a tackle, he went forward unchallenged and planted a shot into the bottom right corner, helped by a shimmy from Mr Antonio.
Jakob could have equalized with the last kick of the game but his shot went wide and referee Borghese blew the final whistle.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Oliver Coffa.

13.1.11

Ambrit Girls 0-0 Ambrit Teachers

An exciting match dominated by the teachers' team finished goal-less, thanks mainly to the Girls' Player of the Match, Hannah, who frustrated every attempt by the teachers' Player of the Match - Miss Pringle - who delighted the onlookers with a fine display of footballing skills.
The game's first chance fell to Miss Alida when she was put through by a clever reverse pass from Miss Eleanor but Alida pulled the ball wide. Miss Pringle's free kick a few minutes later was wide too and Miss Eleanor might have scored before half time but Beatrice made an excellent tackle before she could shoot.
The introduction of Miss Thonh-That, Miss Cianni and Miss Westelaeken at half time gave the teachers another boost. Miss Cianni immediately opened the defence with a precisely hit pass to Miss Pringle and her well-placed shot was well saved by Hannah. Immediately afterwards, Miss Beeton found Miss Pringle free in the box; she turned well and got a shot in but Hannah's positioning was perfect.
Miss Pringle received another ball on the left soon after, controlling it with the outside of her foot and volleying a shot just over the bar.
And then came the game's most controversial moment. Miss Pringle got another shot in, this time from the right and this time managing to beat Hannah's outstretched arm. Would the ball have gone in? We will never know because Miss Thonh-That (henceforth to be known as Diego Thonh-That Maradona) decided to help it over the line with her hand!
