SPRING INTRAMURAL

As the players go into a well-earned Christmas break, managers and agents now begin a hectic round of negotiations that will culminate in January's transfer market.
Deals will be finalised on Tuesday January 8th, when the captains gather to finalise their strategies.
Big money transfers are likely to involve Cristian and Dylan, Ameli and Flavia - all winners of the top scorer or best player prizes in December.
But shrewd captains will also be looking for bargains from lower down the points table to complete their squads with a balance of muscle and talent and the right mix of defence and attack.

As usual, a seventh team joins the Boys league in Spring and this seventh team - Fiorentina - will be a team of girls who are looking for extra practice as the Med Cup looms in early May.
Matches involving Fiorentina will be 8 girls versus 6 boys, with the boys limited to three touches.

ANSPI u11: Vigna Pia Bianca 2-2 Ambrit

24 hours after an excellent performance against CRIS, Ambrit returned to action against Vigna Pia.
A scoreless first period was very even but Vigna Pia started the second half more quickly and went 1-0 ahead.
But captain Vittorio came to the rescue 5' later with a fantastic free-kick that gave the goalkeeper no chance. At this stage, the teams were level but Vigna Pia continued to press and created too many chances for comfort. Ambrit were glad to hear the whistle for the end of the second period.
Nonetheless it was Ambrit who took the lead in period 3; Bertie followed up a knock on from Alberto and scored. But Vigna Pia equalized immediately, taking advantage of Dylan who had swapped into goal but was still putting on his shirt: the referee should really have held up the play.
The last few minutes were tense but the game finished 2-2.
AMBRIT: Leo, Carlo, Bertie, Alberto, Dylan, Cameron, Vittorio, Nicholas

And the situation so far...
After six games, the Ambrit u11 team is definitely improving and has probably not collected as many points as their play has deserved. Despite playing with no dedicated goalkeeper, the side has defended very well. Carlo's experience from last year shows in his confident approach and Leo is developing into a very dependable defender too. Pedro, another valuable addition to the team, can play at the back or further forward and does so with determination and skill. Our captain, Vittorio, is playing further forward this year and he continues to lead by example, always covering every blade of grass on the pitch. Alberto is back again this year and is often our best passer of the ball, while Dylan and Cameron have come into the team and given us new width, pace and an attacking impulse that was sometimes lacking before.
Bertie and Adam share a good first touch and always look for the simple pass and Nicholas is full of energy and running. Jonah is our secret weapon when we need to take an opposing player out of the game (legally!) and Cosimo has impressed with his tigerish play in midfield.
BUT, we still need to improve lots of things, beginning with those tackles... WE NEED TO WIN THEM ALL!

ANSPI U11: Ambrit 4-5 Cris

A heart-warming performance but a heart-breaking result for Ambrit on Wednesday evening at Ambrit Stadium.
Ambrit sprang out of the traps with great energy and pinned the visitors into their own half for much of the first period. Dylan put us 1-0 ahead and it was another shot from Dylan that forced a mistake from the Cris goalkeeper, allowing Bertie to put us 2-0 up.
A momentary loss of concentration towards the end of the period allowed Cris to pull one back and it was these short moments of distraction that would prove to be Ambrit's undoing later on.
Ambrit went further ahead at the beginning of Period 2, Vittorio on target. Cris stepped up the pressure and scored a good goal for 3-2 but their equaliser was unforgivable from an Ambrit point of view. Their captain took possession in midfield and, practically unchallenged, he was allowed to shoot and the ball was deflected in: 3-3 going into period 3. Nonetheless the second period was positive for Jonah's return to the squad and for a great debut performance from Nicholas.
Cris moved the ball around much more fluently in the final period and their centre forward brought the wide players into the game cleverly. Cris went ahead for the first time but Dylan completed his hat-trick: 4-4.
But a final burst from the visitors brought them a final, winning goal. No time to recover for Ambrit but lots of time to reflect on what might have been.
AMBRIT: Leo, Adam, Pedro, Vittorio, Jonah, Nicholas, Dylan, Cameron, Bertie, Alberto, Carlo

BOYS' FINAL: Inter 3-2 Milan

Today's match was a worthy final and the two teams went at each other hammer and tongs from first to last.
Inter completely dominated the opening minutes but couldn't score. Dylan set up Giorgio in the middle but his shot was wildly off-target. Next, Jacopo got off a fantastic shot from point-blank range but Virginia brought off a reaction save that will go down in the annals of Intramural history. Dylan ran onto a header from the subsequent corner but his effort was just over. Twice more Virginia denied Jacopo in this opening sequence but then Dylan did finally break the deadlock with a determined run and shot.
Finally Milan woke up and a speculative long-range shot from Michele evened up the scoreline.
At this stage, it was an even match and the most fascinating tussle was taking place between two 6th-grade players, Edoardo and Dylan.
Dylan today was in fine form; he tackled fiercely, ran well and passed cleverly. But Edoardo matched him step for step and divided his time between Dylan and Jacopo.
With 12 minutes still to play, Jacopo pounced to make it 2-1 but Milan re-doubled their efforts in attack. Inter defended a series of corners and looked to be escaping but Edoardo got a foot to a loose ball and poked it home: 2-2.
Milan now smelled victory and continued to throw men into attack, but this was their undoing. A bad bounce saw Dylan and Jacopo in the clear with only Virginia to beat and Dylan cooly slotted home the winning goal in this year's championship.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Dylan 6, Edoardo 5, Augusto 4, Mikel 2, Michele 2, Jacopo 2

BOYS' FINAL - Milan vs Inter: Preview

Wednesday's final sees Milan face up to Inter.
I nerazzurri carry an important double psycholgical advantage into the game - they have already beaten Milan 2-0 in the group stages and, worse, Milan find themselves without their vastly experienced captain (Ale N) for this final match.
And, as if this weren't enough, Inter's captain (Jacopo) is sitting on top of the Scorer's list and is in a fine vein of form, having starred in Ambrit's winning performance at St George's last Saturday.
A big responsibility will now fall on Milan's most experienced player - Michele - to lead his team in this match. Luckily he can count on the Mateo-Joel-Tommaso trio who have been part of Ambrit's successes in the ANSPI leagues for the last two seasons.
Milan's other ace is, of course, Edoardo - this year's grade 6 revelation and currently second in the Player of the Tournament table!
For their part, Inter look solid at the back: Gavyn is already a rock on his own but, with Elias EZ to back him up, the Inter defence is formidable indeed. They also have two goalkeepers to choose from. In midfield, Mikel and Augusto have been improving with every game and Dylan has been the perfect foil for Jacopo up front.

THIRD PLACE FINAL: Napoli 0-0 Juventus (4-4 after penalties... so far!)

Another cracking game at lunchtime but this one without any goals. Both 'keepers did well but lots of chances were wasted too. Juve with a better passing game, especially through Daniel and Alex P, but Carlos should have scored. Napoli dangerous on the break but Anthony and Tommaso too far apart, but greatly helped by Pietro who stayed in defence. The penalty competition did not produce a winner and will be resumed on MONDAY at LUNCHTIME.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniel 5, Alex P 3, Pietro dP 3, Massimo M 2, Anthony 2, Ludovico 2, Andrea 2, Massimo S 1, Tommy 1

Napoli 3-3 Inter (7-8 after penalties)

A wet and windy Ambrit Stadium was warmed this morning by a scintillating semi-final that ended in a dramatic penalty shoot out that saw Inter progress to next Wednesday's final.
Both teams had important absences today but Napoli kept getting their noses in front, with well-placed shots from Anthony and Pietro putting them into the lead on three occasions but, on each occasion, Jacopo found the answer with some determined, direct play and some precise finishing. Jacopo hit the bar too; Anthony had a good chance to win the game right at the end but his shot from point-blank range bounced back off the post.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Jacopo 7, Pietro 6, Anthony 3, Mikel 2, Gavyn 1, Taki 1, Dylan 1

GIRLS' FINAL: Chelsea 4-2 Manchester City

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Selina 6, Raffaella 4, Giorgia 2, GaiaDR 2, Ameli 2, Noor 1, Lucy 1,  Michelle 1, Sofia DM 1, Yutong 1.

10.12.18

ANSPI u11: Vigna Pia Rosso 2-2 Ambrit

Ambrit came from behind twice tonight to earn a well-deserved point against a Vigna Pia side that had come into this game on full points.
The first period was scoreless; with Cameron raiding successfully down the right hand side, Ambrit should really have scored a couple of goals but they lacked any killer instinct when presented with a chance. Adam got into some good positions but didn't finish. At the other end, Dylan was very solid between the sticks.
Immediately on the re-start, Vigna Pia caught us cold and were 1-0 up after 10 seconds. But Ambrit recovered and should have equalised through Bertie early on but, later, did equalise when Vittorio's determined play forced an error in defence. Particularly impressive in this period was Cosimo, who showed the kind of determination in the tackle that inspired his team mates later on.
Ambrit continued to press forward in the third period and Alberto and Adam both stepped up their games to give us an extra dimension going forward. But Ambrit were caught on the break with only five minutes left. This was the only chance that a fantastic Leo and Pedro in defence had allowed the home side but Vigna Pia tucked the ball past Carlo to make it 2-1.
Ambrit threw everything into attack and, from one of many corners, Vittorio drove a piledriver through the heart of the Vigna Pia defence and off the goalkeeper for the equaliser!
AMBRIT: Adam, Pedro, Leo, Carlo, Cosimo, Cameron, Dylan, Alberto, Vittorio (C), Bertie

BOYS Semi-Final: Milan 4-2 Juventus

After a turbulent qualifying stage, Milan got their act together and today knocked out Juve, who had finished in first place in the qualifiers.
Mateo put Milan ahead with a well-taken goal after 4' but the lead was short-lived, current top-scorer Julian levelling things soon afterwards.
Juve then got their noses in front for the first and only time when Carlos was played through and beat Virginia with a powerful cross-shot (congratulations to Virginia who played an excellent game but does not qualify for 'Best Player' votes; congratulations to Daniel too for his sporting gesture in allowing her to play).
One of Milan's best players again today was Edoardo and, when the ball bounced before him on the half-way line, he took aim and launched a high ball past Massimo in goal: 2-2.
Both teams continued to play well, with both captains prominent. Milan recaptured the lead  when Michele finished off a well-built move with a precise shot. Juve tried everything to equalise again but Virginia kept them out, with help from Mateo who headed a fierce shot off the line.
Ale made sure of the result with a last-minute goal.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniel 5, Edoardo 4, Ale N 4, Michele 3, Mateo T 2, Ottaviano 1, Alex PU 1, Francesco 1

6.12.18

Milan 3-2 Roma

Milan needed to avoid defeat today to go through to the semi-finals; Roma needed a win: Roma fought hard but they exit the competition after a narrow defeat.
Edoardo put Milan ahead early on but then it was he who fouled Cristian 4' later and Cristian thundered home the free kick to equalise.
The turning point of the game came on 11' when another shot from Cristian struck the crossbar when it might have gone in. Instead, Edoardo put Milan 2-0 up soon afterwards with a long-range lob.
With 1 minute left on the clock, Elias equalised for Roma but, as i giallorossi went in search of a winner, Michele took advantage of some open space to score the winner for Milan.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edoardo 8, Ale N 3, Cristian 5, Elias F 2, Michele 1, Pietro N 1

5.12.18

Juventus 5-0 Inter

A heavy defeat today for Inter but both teams still progress to the semi-finals; Inter, though, need to improve dramatically.
With Jacopo and Gavyn arriving late, Daniel had already put Juve 1-0 up. with Inter now at full strength, Juve nonetheless doubled their lead, agin through Daniel who scored with a long, looping shot from the half way line.
Inter did have chances. Giorgio spurned a glorious opportunity, blasting the ball over the bar, and Jacopo should have scored with a close-range shot but Massimo made a great save.
Ottaviano killed off the game with the third goal and again Inter missed a chance at the other end, this time Mikel shooting wide.
Two more goals from Andrea and Julian made it a resounding victory and Daniel almost added another from a free kick but Cesare saved well. Dylan too might have scored but his well-struck shot was beaten back by Massimo.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniel 8, Ottaviano 2, Mikel 2, Ludovico 2, Massimo M 2, Francesco 1, Dylan 1, Augusto 1, Gavyn 1, Alex PU 1

2.12.18

ANSPI u11: SM Trigoria 3-12 Ambrit

Ambrit u11s recorded their first win of the season with a convincing performance at Trigoria on Sunday afternoon.
A quick start saw Dylan bang in two early goals and brother Cameron made it 3-0. Dylan completed his hat trick late in the first period and Vittorio made it 5 before the break.
Vittorio took Alberto's place in goal for the second period (we are still looking for a full-time 'keeper!) and Pedro came in for Dylan. Ambrit continued to pile forward and goals from Cameron and Alberto (2) took us to 8-1 at the end of the second period.
For the last period, Leo took over in goal. Two goals from a rested Vittorio (one of them a fantastic free-kick) and another reply from Trigoria made it 10-2 and, in the last 5 minutes, Trigoria scored again but Ambrit added two more (Cameron and Dylan).
All over the pitch today, there were vast improvements on last Wednesday's performance that saw Ambrit lose 0-3 to S. Girolamo. Our players were first to the ball, eager to receive the ball and all were trying to play simple passes on the ground.
Let's hope we can push on from here and keep on the winning trail!
Ambrit: Leo, Carlo, Vittorio, Pedro, Dylan, Cameron, Cosimo, Alberto

30.11.18

Lazio 0-0 Napoli

0-0 games are not always bad games... but this one was - probably the worst game of the tournament so far.
Napoli, handicapped by the absence of two disqualified players, were unable to score against a Lazio team whose limitations have already been exposed in previous matches.
Both goalkeepers played well.
A point is enough to see Napoli safely through to the semi-finals.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Ale CS 4, Alex D 4, Riccardo 2, Louis 2, Anthony 2, Pietro dP 2, Adriano 1, William 1, Miguel 1, Paul 1, Taki 1

29.11.18

Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Decimated by absences, Arsenal were unable to capture the three points needed to qualify for the final.
Despite starting with only 5 players, the Gunners nevertheless dominated possession for long periods and Alice was a constant threat; only for Annie and Emma in defence and Gala in goal, she would surely have scored.
Sarah kept things tight and the back and she was forced to watch Sofia closely; Sofia was constantly on the prowl for a chance today and she did get two good shots on target but not in the net.
Clio came on late for Arsenal and played very well, showing a good first touch and good passing skills.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Annie 6, Virginia 3, Alice 3, Sarah 2,  Clio 2, Emma C 2, Gala 1, Sofia 1, Rachele 1

GIRLS FINAL: THUR December 13th, Chelsea vs Manchester City

28.11.18

Inter 2-0 Milan

With Captain Ale disqualified for this one, Milan were always going to be hard pressed to come away with a result.
And Inter took full advantage, piling on the pressure from the word go and reducing i rossoneri to a few chances.
Inter, meanwhile, were rampant. Many chances had already been spurned when Jacopo finally opened  the scoring off a Dylan pass. Milan did have a chance to equalise when Tommy had a one-on-one against Cesare but Cesare made a fantastic save.
Dylan himself scored the second goal off a Mikel assist and, at 2-0, Inter looked secure. Milan did have a couple of chances - Michele's free kick that thundered back of the bar was one - but i nerazzurri take the points and leave Milan needing to avoid defeat in their last game against Roma!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edoardo 5, Gavyn 5, Jacopo 3, Dylan 3, Cesare 2, Mikel 2, Michele 1

25.11.18

ANSPI u13: Real Muratella 1-2 Ambrit

Another victory for Moses & team at a rainy Muratella on Sunday morning!
Goals from Mateo (10') and Paul (22') gave the team a sufficient margin to survive a late comeback by the home team which saw them claw their way back to within one goal of the visitors.
AMBRIT: Cesare, Santiago, Bernardo, Paul, Giacomo, Giorgio, Ludovico, Mateo, Joel

21.11.18

Roma 3-2 Lazio

Roma came through a rough-and-tumble derby today with a valuable three points while Lazio's defeat means that they no longer have any hope of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Pietro put i giallorossi ahead after 6 minutes and Filippo made a fantastic tackle on the line three minutes later to preserve the slender lead.
Roma made it 2-0 shortly afterwards when Cristian finished off a move that had begun with a pass out of defence from Elias, but Lazio were not giving up easily.
Whereas Roma had dominated the early stages of the game, Lazio now started to take over in midfield and their attacks increased in frequency and intensity. With typical derby rivalry, Filippo and Cristian both picked up yellow cards for Roma and Lazio's captain was booked too.
Lazio's determination was rewarded when Paul followed up an Alex shot and, in the ensuing scramble, managed to hook the ball past Marco with a back heel.
Now Roma looked even more nervous in defence and, when Alex put them to the test with a crossfield run and a ball into the box, Ricky was first to react and he hammered it into the roof of the net to make it 2-2  with just 1 minute left on the clock.
With Roma in possession, Lazio could have slowed it down and taken a point but a foul on Cristian gave Roma one more chance. Cristian lined up the free kick and, just like Ronaldo versus Spain, he knew what he had to do and he did it: his shot was too powerful for Ale in goal and Roma took the three points.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Alex D 5, Cristian 4, Pietro N 3, Ricky 3, Filippo 2, Giacomo 2, Paul 2

Note: Massimo received a red card today for repeated pitch invasions and will miss Napoli's last match versus Lazio

Juve 6-2 Napoli

No contest today as a supremely confident Juve brushed aside a Napoli that, without captain Anthony, never looked like winning.
In a niggly game, Juve piled on the goals. Andrea's shot was blocked by Louis but Juan tappedd in (1-0); Daniel from a free-kick made it 2-0 and his pass found Julian for 3-0. In a goalmouth scramble, Ottaviano got the last touch (4-0) and Alex P made a good run and shot to make it 5-0. Julian's second of the day made it 6-0 and, following Tommy's red card, Napoli finally woke up.
From a corner, Pietro got up well to head the ball towards goal and it rebounded off Manuel on the way in. Valerio scored the game's best goal to make it 6-2.
Tommy will miss Napoli's next match.

Cesaraccio Tommaso (Napoli)

Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:

With over half of the games played, both leagues are delicately poised.

In the boys’ competition, Napoli can make sure of a semi-final place by taking just one more point against Juve or Lazio.

Inter must still face both Milan and Juve while the loser of next Wednesday’s Roma-Lazio derby will be eliminated while the winner will have renewed hope of a semi-final place.

Milan 1-1 Napoli

Under siege for most of the match, Napoli stole a point today when Anthony equalised Ale's earlier goal.
Shots from Matteo and Michele went wide and Louis kept out later attempts from Ale and Edo before Ale finally smashed home an unstoppable drive.
Apart from some isolated runs from Tommy and Anthony, Napoli looked unlikely to score and so Anthony's later equaliser was an unlikely boon.
Both teams missed good opportunities from free-kicks late on and Ale picked up a second yellow card that will rule him out of Milan's vital derby match on Nov 28th.

RISA League - Girls

Ambrit 0-3 SGBIS A

9.11.18

Inter 2-0 Roma

A poor-quality match today was decided by two moments of magic from Jacopo.
His first goal, direct from a corner, took Marco by surprise. His second came when he drifted past three defenders into the left side of the penalty area and slotted the ball home into the opposite corner.
Elsewhere, Gavyn played well in defence and the two goalkeepers were solid. Other huffed and puffed but blew down no houses.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Jacopo 5, Gavyn 5, Dylan 3, Cristian 2, Augusto 1, Elias F 1, Lorenzo 1, Marco 1, Pietro N 1, Filippo 1

8.11.18

Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal

ANSPI u11: Ambrit 1-1 Casaletto

An exciting game tonight at Ambrit Stadium saw the teams sharing the points after an intense game played in the right spirit and at a fast pace.
Ambrit took the lead in the first period but, with play moving quickly from end-to-end, Casaletto managed to pull level later on.
Despite numerous chances at both ends (Ambrit hit the post twice!), no more goals were scored; both goalkeepers making some fine saves. Ambrit did have the ball in the net in the third period but the referee's whistle had already stopped play for a push on a defender.

Juve 7-1 Lazio

Juventus crushed Lazio in today's match, with Juan Carlos posting a hat-trick and Julian a 'doppietta'.
JC knocked in the first goal early on and slid in a second 4 minutes later from the left.
Both Andrea and Julian had chances to score before they actually got onto the scoresheet and a demoralised Lazio were pinned back in defence, except for a rare foray up front that opened up a chance for Paul but the goalkeeper recovered well.
Daniel was a magnet for the ball in midfield and his passing was excellent, though not always early enough. Andrea scored the third, Julian the fourth and fifth, JC the sixth and Daniel the seventh.
Lazio's only reply was a late goal from Miguel.
Interviewed after the game, Daniel said: "yes, we brought in Julian to add some goals and he has certainly done that, but it's good to see Juan Carlos responding to the challenge too".
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniel 8, Andrea 4, Juan Carlos 2, Alex D 2, Alex PU 2, Ludo 1, Ricky 1, Michelangelo 1

Napoli 4-1 Inter

Napoli dominated their match today against an Inter who, without Elias in defence, looked vulnerable.
Jacopo started well though, striking the crossbar with a fantastic free kick. It was Napoli who scored first however, Anthony giving Cesare no chance. Anthony made it 2-0 with a well-struck left-footedshot low into the corner and Inter almost struck back when Jacopo found himself one-on-one against Massimo. Massimo made the first of many fantastic saves and Dylan was unable to tuck home the rebound.
At the other end, Anthony played Tommaso through for a third goal and then the captain almost scored his hat trick but, this time, his shot thundered back off the post.
The crowd went wild when Napoli scored their fourth and it was Manuel who applied the finishing touch. Inter saved some face with a last minute goal; again Massimo stopped Jacopo but now Dylan walloped it home.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Anthony 5, Massimo 4, Tommaso 3, Valerio 2,  Gavyn 2, Pietro dP 2, Jacopo 1,  Elijah 1,  Dylan 1

Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Ameli 4, Noor 3, Giorgia 3,  Annie 3, Linh 3, Shosannah 2, Millie 2, SofiaDM 1, Gala 1.

Juve 1-1 Roma

The crowd was royally entertained today at Ambrit Stadium as Juve and Roma played out an end-to-end, nail biting encounter under a gentle October sun.
Roma's goal came early when Cristian fed Saverio on the right; Saverio controlled, took aim and fired past Massimo.
Filippo was everywhere in these early stages, prowling both sides of midfield in search of his next victim and, more often than not, he came away with the ball. Pietro was elegant in midfield and he should have made it 2-0 but he missed his shot when that ball came across his body in he penalty area. He had another chance soon after but Ludo stopped him; Ludo too was outstanding today.
Without Alex P, Daniel and Ottaviano had to shoulder the burden in Juve's midfield, though Andrea was to come into the game spectacularly later on. Meanwhile Elias and Lorenzo cleaned up everything at the back for Roma and i giallorossi should really have extended heir lead. They had lots of chances and Lorenzo's shot just wide was one of them
Then Daniel fired a cracker from the right side of the pitch. Marco threw himself at it and maybe brushed the ball with a finger, just enough to deflect it onto the post. But Roma didn't have time to recover as Andrea collected the ball on the left and fired a beautiful shot into the opposite top corner. Great goal, great game!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Andrea 3, Daniel 3, Lorenzo 3, Ludovico 2, Filippo 2, Pietro 2, Elias 2, Saverio 1, Marco 1, Cristian 1, Juan Carlos 1,

Milan 0-0 Lazio

Lazio ground out a valuable point in a goal-less draw at Ambrit Stadium today.
The only early chance fell to Michele but Giacomo made a great save.
In the second half, Tommy should have made it 1-0 when he followed up Giacomo's save off Ale N's free kick but his shot was blocked.
The tone of the game changed when Ale N was booked for a foul on Guillermo (possible red card?) and Alex rattled the crossbar with the subsequent free kick. Ale CS had a chance to score too but Joel saved well.
Michele had another chance near the end but, once again x was equal to the challenge.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Alex D 4, Michele 4, Giacomo 3, Paul 2, Edoardo 2, Miguel 2, Guillermo, Ricky 1, Sam 1, Ale CS 1

Chelsea 3-1 Liverpool

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Gaia 7, Selina 4, Annie 3, Gala 3, Yutong 2, Linh 2.

Napoli 3-1 Roma

Weakened by the absence of Elias and Filippo, Roma were overpowered by a well-organised Napoli in today's match.
Early chances at either end were not converted -  - Lorenzo shot wide and Pietro hit the bar - and the first goal didn't come until the eleventh minute when Anthony finished off a sweeping move with an accurate left-foot shot past an unsighted Marco.
Tommaso should have made it 2-0 shortly afterwards but he missed the ball completely; he made up for it 2 minutes later with a fine individual goal but hen spoiled it later with a yellow card.
Pietro looked like he would make it 3-0 but Marco made a fantastic save. Marco made another great save immediately afterwards but he was powerless to stop Pietro.
A scoreline of 3-0 would have been unfair to Roma and, in fact, Cristian made it more respectable with a perfectly-struck free kick.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Anthony 4, Cristian 4, Lorenzo 3, Marco 3, Tommaso 2, Pietro dP 2, Saverio 1, Pietro N 1, Ewan 1

Shock Transfer News

In a shock move following their opening defeat, Juventus moved quickly to sign Julian from Maltese Champions, Valetta FC. Interviewed by SkyIntramural, Daniel Simunec - manager and chairman of Juve - "I felt we needed to strengthen the attack and we have the funds available so we are delighted that Julian has signed a two year contract".

Juve - Milan

Juve, weakened by the absence of ace defender Andrea, struggled to contain Juve in today's match at Ambrit Stadium.
There were not many chances early on and Ale N put Milan ahead when he broke from defence as Milan defended a corner. The Juve midfield and defence was AWOL and Ale powered through and gave Ludo no chance.
MatteoT should have made it 2-0 in a similar breakaway move 1 minute later but Ludo made a fantastic save. At the other end, Joel made two saves from Ottaviano and Sam sealed the win with a good shot from distance into the bottom corner.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Ale N 4, Mateo T 3, Daniel 3, Sam 3, Ottaviano 2, Edoardo 2, Ludovico 1, Joel 1, Alex P 1, Michele 1

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

The Girls' league got off to a flying start with one of the most exciting matches to be seen at Ambrit Stadium for quite some time.
Captain Virginia had her Arsenal team lined out and ready in a disciplined formation and, from the first whistle, the Gunners dominated possession. But Noor's Man City were well organised too; they defended well and broke quickly when possible, with Ameli a constant threat.
Mari was the Arsenal engine, constantly winning tackles in midfield and driving the team forward. Flavia, in the City goal, was kept busy and she made some great saves. Then Carole stepped up to take a free kick and she took it well but the ball thumped back off the crossbar. Two minutes later, Arsenal hit the bar twice more in quick succession but the game stayed scoreless.
More pressure from Arsenal then saw the ball fall to Clio outside the penalty area on the right. She struck the ball sweetly through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner: what a goal!
But the drama wasn't over. With only seconds remaining, an Arsenal defender handled the ball on the edge of the area. Nor placed the ball; Virginia placed her wall; Noor struck the ball sweetly and it flew towards the bottom corner of the goal... but Virginia flew too; with a perfectly judged dive, she pushed the ball wide of the post and secured the three points for Arsenal!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Carole 4, Virginia 4, Mari 3, Noor 2, Clio 2, Sofia dM 2, Ameli 2, Flavia, Alice

Inter 2-1 Lazio

The new season kicked off with a match that was competitive but one that did not offer up a great spectacle to a packed Ambrit stadium.
Lazio's captain Alex had a great game though and it was he that scored the first goal of this year's intramural. Turning in from a tight position on the right, he fired past a surprised Cesare.
Ale CS was surprised in the other goal shortly afterwards when Gavin equalised with a long shot.
Guillermo now started to play well and he created a good chance for himself but Cesare made a great save. Lazio continued to apply pressure and Inter somehow escaped intact when first Alex and then Miguel hit the bar, with Cesare making another good save. Alex had the ball in the net on 15' but the referee had already blown a free kick when advantage might have been played.
Inter stole the points near the end; Jacopo got away on the right and fired a fierce shot from close range past Ale at the near post.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Alex 5, Gavyn 3, Paul 3, Guillermo 3, Mikel 2, Dylan 2, Jacopo 2, Cesare 1.

Teachers 4-0 8G

An imperious display from the teachers against a valiant but outclassed 8G finished in a landslide victory and restored the teachers to their rightful place after last year's debacle.
With an anxious Mourinho looking on from the sidelines, the Teachers were quick to make their physical advantage count but, allied to their aerial game, was some crisp passing to feet.
After a couple of fantastic saves from Virginia in goal, Mr Piccolo's cushioned header put them 1-0 up. Mr Paolo made it 2-0 when he followed up Mr Alessandro's attempt that crashed back off the bar.
It was Mr. Paolo who struck again to make it 3-0. There was no way back for 8G but they never stopped trying and they created some good chances, but Mr Martin was equal to all attempts.
Mr. Piccolo hammered the final nail into the coffin but there will be more games later this year and this 8th grade might yet have the last laugh.

HOMEROOM CHALLENGE - FINAL: 8G 3-0 7M

Missing top-scorer Totti, 7M played well but never really threatened the 8G goal. Protected by a solid defence of Selina, Maisie and Emma, the boys Antony, Daniel,  Lorenzo and Jacopo were free to play a mature brand of football based on good movement off the ball, patient build-up, early passing and accurate shooting. Antony opened up the 7M defence first for Lorenzo, then for Jacopo and finished off the scoring himself. A voice in the crowd was heard to murmur... "if Ambrit doesn't win the Med Cup this year, they never will". Indeed.
Congratulations to the Champions - we'll see them in action against the teachers next week.

7M 1-1 6D (5-2 after penalties)

Incredible! Against all the odds, G6 pulled off a memorable result against 7M but then crashed out on penalties. Alex PU put his team ahead and frantic play from 7M saw Cristian equalise but stout defending from 6D kept them at bay (bravo Alessandro in goal!!).

6D 2-1 6R

Goals from Alex and Raffaele put 6D through to SF versus G7!

6C 2-1 6R

6C pulled themselves together after yesterday's defeat and played themselves back into the reckoning with a hard-fought victory over 6R.
Chanel followed up long range effort and was first in to nudge the ball over the line to give 6C an early lead. 6R battled to get back into the game but Dylan battled too hard and received the season's first red card.
But 6R never lost hope and, when Edoardo conceded a free kick near the half-way line, Marco scored with a superb long-range effort to bring the teams level.
But 6R joy was short-lived: Pietro, hovering on the edge of the box, received the ball and slotted it past the keeper to give the three points to 6C.
